Isobutane, also known as 2-methylpropane, is an organic substance with a chemical formula of C4H10 and a CAS number of 75-28-5. It is a colorless, slightly odorous flammable gas under normal temperature and pressure. It has low toxicity and can be regarded as a simple asphyxiant. Melting point: -159.4°C, boiling point: -11.73°C, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, etc. Mainly exist in natural gas, refinery gas and cracked gas, obtained by physical separation, etc., can also be obtained by isomerization of n-butane. It forms an explosive mixture with air, and the explosion limit is 1.9% to 8.4% (volume). It may burn and explode when exposed to heat sources and open flames. It is mainly used to produce isooctane through alkylation with isobutylene, which is used as gasoline octane improver; through cracking, it can produce isobutylene and propylene; it can be alkylated with n-butene and propylene to produce alkylated gasoline; it can produce methyl alcohol. 2. High purity isobutane is mainly used as standard gas and the preparation of special standard mixture.
